Thirty seven young leaders from 14 countries gathered in the serene mountain town of Dhour Chweir in order to participate in International Dialogue and Education Camp 2016.
A continual of the foundations set by previous IWSC camps, IDEC 2016 focused on the subject of preventing violent extremism. The participants were chosen with an emphasis on being educators / trainers / youth leaders, so that they may diffuse the knowledge acquired in IDEC 2016 to their audiences in their home countries.
Welcomed to the camp by FDCD President Rev. Dr. Riad Jarjour and First Secretary of the Swiss Embassy Mr. Nicolas Masson, the participants engaged in seven days of workshops, interactive sessions, and visited several parts of Lebanon.
The camp not only provided a deeper insight at violent extremism and how to counter it, but also the multicultural aspect of IDEC allowed the participants to put the tools they learned into practice.
Friendships were made, stereotypes were broken, and a network of youth committed to countering violent extremism and promoting peace was formed.
